Summer is fast approaching, and in the meantime Letchworth Garden City is going to be blessed with a variety of events for those who live in the town and surrounding areas, and those who are visiting for the day, to enjoy.
A fantastic selection of French traders will be crossing the channel and bringing a certain je ne sais quoi to the town centre on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th of June, from 09:00 to 17:30 both days. They will be selling an array of artisanal items, from antiques and jewellery to flowers and plants, arts and crafts to food and gifts.
Letchworth’s big weekend will be culminating in The Big Lunch, a national event initiated by the Eden Project and organised in Letchworth by the Rotary Club. This will be at Howard Park on Sunday 7th, bringing the community together for lunch and fun starting from 12:00 and bringing things to a close at 15:00. Bring a picnic, join in with traditional games and enjoy live music, classic cars, stalls and amusements for children. You can even buy food at the event if you forget to make a picnic!
The exciting month continues as the inaugural Letchworth Grand Prix, organised by Kinetic Cycles and Hertfordshire County Council in association with TriSports, will be held from 12:00 until 20:00 on the 14th June at Broadway Gardens, featuring a full day of closed circuit racing for cyclists, an open course session if you wish to take part without competing, food drink and entertainment. For more information visit www.letchworthgrandprix.co.uk.
As well as this, the ever-popular farmer’s market will continue to take place in Leys Square on the third Saturday of every month, from 09:00 – 13:00. This month’s market will be taking place on June 20th, featuring a number of local sellers who will offer a variety of fresh and cured meats, fresh vegetables, plants, baked goods and more, all of which are produced within a 30 mile radius.
Armed Forces Day, on Saturday 27th June, will be celebrated on Broadway Gardens with a free event from 09:00 – 13:00, with a funfair and live entertainment as well as stalls and exhibitions from Local Cadets and Veteran Associations providing fun for all ages.
All of this is in addition to the Letchworth Festival which runs from Saturday 13th to Sunday 28th June. The organisers have put together another comprehensive programme of events in and around Letchworth. Full details can be found online at www.letchworthfestival.org and paper copies of the programme are available from selected shops and the Tourist Information Centre. Look out for the vintage bus on Saturday 13th June that will be providing a free collection/drop off service between the Grand Opening on Broadway Gardens and the Town Centre!
